It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of James Ellery Matchett, who passed away peacefully at his home on May 22 surrounded by family.
There is no questioning how much Jim loved his family. He is leaving behind his loving wife of 32 years, Lisa, and their two children Nolan (Alexis Bryce) and Morgan. As the baby of his family, he will also be greatly missed by his brother, David (Brenda), and his sisters: Lois Gilliss, Gail Matchett, Karen Donovan (Roger) and Susan Manderville (Gordon), and Krista Matchett. Jimmy always said he had the best in-laws in the world. He will be so missed by his father and mother-in-law, David and Sue Keating, his brother-in-law, Lane (Esther), and sister-in-law Lana Dolan (Terry). He will also be greatly missed by his special canine companion, Scotty. He was predeceased by his father, Ellery Matchett, his mother, Elva Matchett, and his brothers-in-law, Paul Gilliss and Arnold "Buzzy" McKay. Jimmy will also be missed by all of his aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who brought so much joy into his world.
Jimmy grew up in Upper Derby and shared so many beloved memories from there with his family and friends. Jimmy was so proud of his children and never missed any event that they had going on in their lives. He shared his love of golf and competitive drive with his daughter, Morgan, and they spent many hours together playing the sport that they loved. He had many long conversations with his son, Nolan, about their shared interest in work and love for technology. There wasn't a problem that he couldn't solve.
Jimmy and Lisa loved to travel and made amazing travel partners; although they didn't get everywhere they wanted to go, they shared many wonderful memories travelling the globe and making friends at each stop along the way. Jimmy's most prized possession was his Harley Davidson. It didn't matter if he was going for a quick drive around the river or on longer road trips with co-pilot Lisa or his friends, getting on that bike was what made him the happiest. Jimmy had a contagious smile and a personality that would light up any room he walked into. Although that smile can no longer be seen, his presence will most certainly be felt.
Visitation will be open to the public at Davidson’s Funeral Home 597 Old King George Hwy, Miramichi on Wednesday, May 26th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. A private Celebration of Life will be held at Davidson’s Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund will be set up in memory of Jim at TD Bank. Burial will follow at the Derby United Church Cemetery.
