E. Diane (Geikie) MacDonald
It is with an equal measure of sadness and gratitude our family announces Diane’s passing.
While there is always a great deal of sadness when we lose a family member there is also reason for gratitude when one has suffered like Diane.
At the age of 62 Diane was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She spent her subsequent years living within the nightmare that is AD. This cruel devasting disease took her memories, her mobility, her ability to speak and finally her life. Our family is truly grateful that she has been set free at last. May she Rest in Peace.
Diane graduated in 1967 from Harkins High School in Newcastle, having studied commercial courses. Diane was an avid bingo player and very active as a volunteer at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10. She was a member of more than 40 years serving in many capacities. Quite content as a homebody Diane rarely travelled outside the Maritimes. Diane lived in Toronto for a brief time, but her heart was always on the Miramichi with her Mother, sisters, daughter and grandchildren.
Diane was predeceased by her parents John and Edith Geikie, two sisters, Janice Malley and Theresa (Theriault) Howe and niece Darlene Malley.
Diane is survived by her daughter Lynn of Miramichi and three grandchildren Joshua, Emma and Ethan of Amherst NS. Three sisters Faye Young of Elliot Lake ON, Jackolyn Black and Betty Sheffar of Miramichi. Diane is also survived by a very special niece Rachel Black. Rachel is considered Diane’s second daughter who served as her bingo buddy, taxi driver, confidant and all around go to person. Rachel was a caring companion during Diane’s AD journey. She was always there to do whatever was needed. For these reasons and so many more we extend our sincere appreciation for her kindness.
Due to the Covid-19 a private visitation and funeral service will be held. Burial will be in the Moorefield Cemetery Millbank, Miramichi.
Due to the Covid-19 mask and social distancing are required.
Those wishing to make a donation in Diane’s memory can make a contribution to RCL Branch # 10 or the Miramichi Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Society.
Arrangements are in the care of Davidson’s Funeral Home, 622-7464 and online at, your family-owned, family-operated funeral home.
